Postponing therapy might result in major health problems. Usually, the symptoms of pyloric stenosis start to show slowly and become more obvious as time goes on. The most typical indication is vomiting in a projectile manner within a short period of time after eating. This vomiting is violent and may shoot a great distance, unlike typical spit-up. Infants may seem hungry after vomiting because they are not able to hold adequate nutrients. Other signs include constipation, weight loss and irritability, decreased wet diapers and dehydration. Some parents may detect apparent contractions of the stomach as it tries to force the food through the restricted pyloric hole. During the examination, a doctor may feel a little olive-shaped tumour in the upper belly, often linked to pyloric stenosis. Imaging tests usually confirm the diagnosis.
